About
Hi! I’m Akemi Rankine-Griffith, a self-taught oil painter based in Vancouver. Born with Trinidadian heritage and raised in Bangkok, I mostly paint what I observe in my day-to-day life: small still-life moments, quiet corners, and landscapes that feel grounding or familiar!
Oil paint suits the way I work. Sculptural, indecisive, slow, forgiving, and responsive. I enjoy being able to change things as I go, to revise, soften, or completely rework areas until the image feels right. I let the painting lead me and leave space for surprises, imperfections, and accidental beauty.
My practice is rooted in curiosity and a love for the medium itself. Each piece is simply a moment of attention and something ordinary made worthy of a longer look. Thanks for being here and taking the time to explore my work!
